Is it possible to change the wording of the 'Like' button?

@NikNik @Lauz @Former-Member (not sure who to tag Smiley Frustrated)

Edited to add:

* I know  the 'like' option is meant to be seen as support - that does not make it right or even okay.

* I do not mean that anyone on the forum actually enjoys the pain of others. What I am referring to is how constant usage changes the meaning and expectation of said usage.

* Given we are all on a journey of dealing with MH issues, doesn't it make sense to do something with the things we can do something about rather than just accept what's 'meant' by the wrong words/ applications?

* If so many people have already had this 'problem' then why is it not yet changed? and how did it become so easily accepted instead of being changed?

I've been thinking about the 'Like' button.

I do not enjoy clicking 'Like' for someone's pain. It seems very wrong as using the 'like' word for something negative sends the brain the message that's is acceptable, even likeable, to enjoy the pain others experience.

I know this is not what is meant by the use of the 'like' button, however, it is what is happening.

Really wondering here if it's possible to change the word in that part of the coding of the forum to something more indicative of proper and acceptable support.

I have researched some potential alternatives realising the space is likely to be limited. What I've come up with so far althought some might need the font made smaller if the size of the space is set.

* Support
* Care
* I care
* Hearing you
* I'm here
* I'm here for you

Really interested in what you and others think about this.

Re: Is it possible to change the wording of the 'Like' button?

@Former-MemberI agree with you.Not sure of the cost or difficulty to resolve.

Initially I was triggered by the word "ike". I decided that if I was to get involved online I had to get over that resistance.  I tried to "make up" for the limitations by being personal and sharing as well as just pushing a like button.

I have never enjoyed other peoples' pain and doubt that many people use the button but as the forum is evolving it seems time to broach it again.

Liking your like alternatives @Former-Member

Re: Is it possible to change the wording of the 'Like' button?

I @Former-Member. I think we have all had similar experiences with the like button before. I had a long period of being ok to like something that really should never be liked. I think that over time I became used to the like button on the forum as a way of saying all the things you highlighted. It mostly means I hear you and feel for you from my experiences. Sometimes it’s a #metoo symbol on the forum as well. I really understand lots of your feelings of discomfort over this. 💜🤗

Re: Is it possible to change the wording of the 'Like' button?

Good suggestion @Former-Member - I like the alternative "Cares"

Re: Is it possible to change the wording of the 'Like' button?

@Former-Member I was just thinking this yesterday and apologised to outlander for using the like button but wanted her to know I was hearing her. I couldn't agree with you more.

Re: Is it possible to change the wording of the 'Like' button?

This is a great discussion and issue @Former-Member thank you for sharing it, I am not sure about the tech side of the forums in regards to changing what buttons say and if they can be changed, but I will be passing this feedback on.

You have come up with some great alternatives to the word "like" too, I quite like a few of those 🙂

Re: Is it possible to change the wording of the 'Like' button?

thank you @Lunar @greenpea @Appleblossom @Former-Member@Teej @soul for your responses and likes Smiley LOLHeart

Appreciate how it resonates with so many more people than just me. I saw your apology yesterday Greenpea, I've hesitated to click 'Like" numberous times, have not on some occasions because it creates too much internal dissonance for me to 'like' how someone else is hurting.

My minimal web creation experience suggests there should be a way to overwrite the word if there isn't a way to change the dimensions of the form the word sits in.

I really hope so.

I'm trying to do my bit to 'Be the change you want to see in the world' one step at a time.  HeartSmiley Wink

Hi @Former-Member

How about simply Agree ?

I know what you mean, I have avoided the 'like' button as it can send the wrong message to a person in a fragile moment

Re: Is it possible to change the wording of the 'Like' button?

hi @enigma........I actually mean 'like" hahahaha
