Checking In
I thought I would start a thread for myself and other members to check in. I thought also needed a thread for myself after being in hospital recently too. Hope its helpful for others too.
I had not so bad today, my anxiety levels are less and feeling a bit more energentic which I think is good.To me that is a good sign. I have start to put my recovery plan in to action from my hospital admission. Tomorrow I think my staffy dog will be needing surgery, she had had another mast cell tumour. I truly feel for her, she has been fighting this cancer for almost four years, she is so strong and courgeous.
This week I have a specialist appointment twice and seeing my other Doctor once this week. I think with me and Kira I am going to have a busy week.

Re: Checking In
Hello @oceangirl,
Thank you for starting this thread, that's great 🙂
I am so sorry to hear about your staffy, what a tough little girl, poor thing. I saw the picture you posted of her all snuggled up in that rug, so so cute, she seems very sweet. Sounds like a very busy week for you, thinking of you @oceangirl

Re: Checking In
Great idea @oceangirl
I'm feeling very all over the place today, started off feeling happy and motivated now feeling sad and depressed for no reason.
How has your dog gone at the vet, I mentioned this on another post as I couldnt remember which one I saw it on.
I know how difficult this time is for you, I have lost my last 2 german shepherds to cancer and the last one was the worst as he was only 4 years old. He was diangosed with final stage of lymphoma when he showed any signs, this was such a surprise to us and extremely devasting. Not sure if you have done the same thing but I researched cancer diets and made up special food with all the ingredients they used. The vet literally gave him 2 weeks and we had him on steroids for pain but with all the special food I made up he actually lasted happily for another 3 months - the vets were so surprised they even took a copy of my meal plan for him.
I hope you boy is ok - I'm thinking of you

Re: Checking In
Your welcome.. I thought it might be a good idea to start the thread. Trouble is comfortable and will find out more in the next few days.No surgery today waiting on pathology results and will take it from there when they become available. She is a very sweet dog, and thank you for your message. We all love her to bits and just staying positive.
@changes123 Would you be able to post the diet? I've done quite a bit of research on diet. I am sorry to hear about your German Shepherds. Thank you so much for your message.
@Zoe7 thank you for your message. Trouble is tough cookie. Atm tucked up in bed with me. Not doing much tomorrow spending the day with her other then my EP appointment.

Re: Checking In
I'll check tonight after work if I still have it at home as it was 6 years ago.
I know I used al lot of th following and you may just need to look up to see quantities.
Firstly I think grain free biscuits is better but even better just home made foods, there never used to be so much cancer in dogs until dry food came along thats why this boy he only gets some biscuits once a day (he eats 3 times a day smaller amounts better for bloat) and I make up the rest both raw and cooked. Ingredient I can remember using are:
cottage cheese (this helps the absorbtion of flax seed oil) and flax seed oil, tumeric, selenium (found in peas but I used the actual powder), green tea mixed in to his food, can sardines. Also the reason for no grain in biscuits etc is that cancer feeds off carbs so you have to lower the carbs and increase the protein.
I'll still have a look if I can find it.
Good luck - most important ingredient LOTS OF CUDDLES AND LOVE!

Re: Checking In
Hi again @oceangirl
http://www.dogcancerbook.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/14-fadklafjalkj342l3kjlkbj9p3.pdf
I found the above link which was very similar to what I did off memory, the recipe is at the end but it goes through explaining all of it.
Sorry need to disappear for a bit feeling a bit overwhelmed and I think speaking about this has made me realise that I havent got over my last boy and it is a bit triggering. Please dont feel its anything to do with you it just me - abit all over the place with emotions.
Hope this helps

Re: Checking In
Good news with trouble. Pathology is in and it is good news- I just need to keep an eye on her. I do watch her diet. I mainly cook her meals- veggies and good quality protein and grain free biscuits. The biscuits she only gets every few day and that's mainly for her teeth.
I'm so relieved and happy. Thank you all for your love and support of trouble and me.
