Coping strategies when triggered by helping others on the forum

Sometimes when helping others here on the forum you(I) can become triggered. And I was wondering if that happens to you what do you do to cope? How do you self care?

I know we all love helping each other me included but sometimes it can be difficult.

I would love to hear of any ideas, suggestions.

Thanks

BB 😊

Re: Coping strategies when triggered by helping others on the forum

Hey @BlueBay I do one of two things when triggered - depending on the trigger I will either stick to a thread I feel safest in and try to talk about how I am feeling or if that is not possible I will take time out of the forum completely. Then if it is possible I will contact the help centre or mods if it is not something I can deal with by myself.

Sometimes just have to take a step back @BlueBay re repetitious/pattern posts or just too oo and don’t know what to do cos outside my World..

Re: Coping strategies when triggered by helping others on the forum

Hi @BlueBay,

Thank you for starting this discussion. It's really important for us to talk about these things. I like your advice @TAB and @Zoe7.

What helps you take a step back @TAB?

@Zoe7  which spaces on the forum feel safest for you when/ if you feel truggered?

Other members have strategies for dealing with this stuff?

Re: Coping strategies when triggered by helping others on the forum

@Chamomile It is usually the Am Not Coping thread but if I am triggered on that thread then that is when I usually take time out completely from the forum.

There are some members I will tag also when I am triggered - those are the members I am closest to, know my story and have helped me in the past when triggered - so I stay very close to those members too - helps me to 'talk' through some of what I am feeling without going into too much detail.

Re: Coping strategies when triggered by helping others on the forum

Mostly I try and listen to my needs and try and connect in a way that really relates to them and I.  Time out helps sometimes.  Glad you are still with us. @BlueBayHeart

I probably don’t often enough re stepping back @Chamomile sometimes its best to realise replying cant help you or others involved

Re: Coping strategies when triggered by helping others on the forum

I just joined today and made my very first post about my situation. Despite feeling ok all day,  writing that post triggered my anxiety,  and my negative and self deprecating thought patterns.
