Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing
I very much get what you mean @Sans911 i havent worked out how to make these moods better just have to ride them out.
I know your psych isnt wanting to work on much until after your surgery but do you think it would be worth talking about other things besides how your week had been? As in like a next step in your therapy-maybe some thing that youd want to work on but not to the point of retraumatising you .just some thing abit tougher but feel you could manage talking about

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing
I know, much like you (although your situation is very different) I had to just keep going until it passes. It's just so frustrating. And with the returning to work course coming to an end next week, we are now looking at setting goals. I'm still unclear about what I want. Part of me wants to go back and work in Emergency. But then I also don't know if I will still find it OK (and my gut tells me I possibly will be ok) or whether I should move on to something else.
Your furry friends are fast asleep. Jasper won't use his new bed, so he's back on his blanket. He currently has his fluffy tail hiding his face. Mr A is stretched out in his bed with his back to me.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing
Fingers crossed for a pass @Sans911 i think you may be able to get some credit for the unit you just done even if its not a pass. Im not to sure though..
Goals are hard and can be frustratinf along with upsetting to try and make up. Ive stopped having to do it because i just cant get out an answer.
Its great your wanting to go back to work and feel ok doing so. Is there a careers advisor you could talk to thatll help work through your options as well?
If working in the ED isn't really an option right now, what other wards or sorts of jobs do you think you would like to do or try out? Maybe make an exercise out of it and sit down and have a think about what roles you would and wouldn't like to do and the steps you may need to take to get there as in maybe a refresher course somewhere or completeing your mh course as a starting point. Im happy to help you or discuss things with you if you wanted to do that. Im a visual sort of person so i find making a flow chart or writing things down in dot points helps me to see what my options may be. Maybe itll help you too?
They are very cute. Its a shame Jaspers not using his new bed though. I guess hes just happy to sleep on his blanket.

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing
Good morning @Sans911 @outlander
It would be great if there was a specialisation in nursing around mental health in the Emergency Department @Sans911 .... perhaps dr’s even more so ? Just a thought.
My hubby has answered questions in ED that flagged his eating disordered mindset very clearly to anyone who was trained enough to pick it up, and I was gobsmacked that it seemed to be invisible because he wasn’t setting off the traditional markers / alarm bells ..... counsellor’s keep telling me that it’s about the mindset rather than the scales and other physical symptoms, but that doesn’t seem to have filtered through yet.
Maybe it’s just my sensitivity to our issues, and the ED staff need to focus on the specific symptoms that brought the patient into ED ?

Re: The Challenges of Mental Health Wellbeing
Unfortunately most medical staff in ED focus n the symptoms and the resolution of them in the shortest time possible & move the patient on. It's not an ideal world, but one bought about by time constraints and the needs of so many.

@Sans911. Wow you’ve done it (and are still doing it)tough. So pleased you’ve noticed a shift in the right direction. I pray that this trend continues for you.
Best of luck 💐
