I've been dealing with mental health issues since early childhood due to physical and emotional abuse. I'm autistic and I have ADHD.
I've tried counselling and it just feels like they pat you on the back and tell you how hard it must be.
I've tried several SSRIs but I don't think they've helped and I think it's because I've never had a point in my life where I've felt stable and safe, and medications aren't going to change that.
I'm currently not working, I am looking for work but it's difficult to find something suitable due to chronic pain and the aforementioned neurodivergence.
I feel like my only option is consistent therapy with a professional psychologist or psychiatrist. I have complex needs and I think I need to be able to see the same provider and have consistent appointments.
I have no money. I'm scared that there won't be any help available for what I'm going through until I'm too far gone.
If anyone knows of any free therapy services that are suitable for someone like me, available preferably in the Brisbane or SEQ area, I would greatly appreciate any advice or info.
Thank you in advance 🙏

hey @Garcinia welcome!! we're glad to have you join the space 😊
it really sucks to hear how hard it's been for you, finding support shouldn't have to be this hard. wish there was a magic wand i could use to get you the perfect support.
Brief therapy psychological services - Brisbane North PHN has some short, free sessions that they can offer. it might also be worth checking here, there might be some options available, most may require a medicare card: How to get help | Health | Queensland Government
Find support services | Queensland Mental Health Commission has some free helplines you can contact for further support and info too.
these aren't 1:1 but rather support groups, just thought i'd link it in case you're interested: Family Support & Social Groups - Autism Queensland
also, have you used Disability Employment Services (DES) - WISE Employment? if not, it might be worth checking your eligibility and trying it out 😊

Hi @Garcinia I am pleased you reached out and posted about your struggles. I think so often we can find it hard to find therapy/support that works for us as individuals. You were able to articulate what you need, "consistent therapy with a professional psychologist or psychiatrist", this is a good starting point. I can echo @rav3n about trying to connect to some of the possible services that offer support.
One service that is provided virtually is eFriend - a FREE service that allows people who are feeling low, lonely or isolated to access peer support via phone or video calls. I mention it as it may be an option for temporary support if wanted or needed, just someone to connect with on a consistent basis.
